CollectA Tyrannosaurus Rex Challenging

Despite being one of the most intensively studied and widely depicted dinosaurs, Tyrannosaurus rex continues to reveal new secrets.  Recent research suggests that tyrannosaurs produced relatively small hatchlings compared with modern birds.  This may indicate that they laid comparatively large numbers of eggs and invested less in individual offspring.  Their reproductive strategy could therefore have been intermediate between the limited parental investment typical of many reptiles and the intensive parental care seen in modern birds.

Other discoveries are providing fresh insights into how the "Tyrant lizard king" moved.  A recently described probable T. rex trackway from North Dakota preserves at least four enormous footprints.  Analysis of the trackway indicates that the animal was walking at approximately 1.5–2 metres per second, with a stride length of around 4 metres.  Such discoveries demonstrate that, even after more than a century of research, palaeontologists are still learning fascinating new details about the biology and behaviour of Tyrannosaurus rex.
