The behavior of humans and these animals is very similar. The chimpanzee is considered the most intelligent animal. For example, they use stones and pieces of wood as hammers, they make sticks from branches with which they poke their food, and they use chewed leaves as sponges. A baby chimpanzee is born after a gestation period of about 15 months. Female chimpanzees can give birth in warm Africa all year long. Unfortunately, chimpanzees cannot talk. Interestingly, zoo chimpanzees have been taught a kind of sign language, that they can use to communicate with keepers. The animals are very active during the day. They live on the ground and in trees. They can swing from branch to branch with their hands. Chimpanzees are omnivores. They eat mainly leaves, flowers, fruits, seeds and nuts, but they also eat insects and caterpillars.
