Baryonyxstands for heavy claw. It was a member of the Spinosauridae family. It was primarily a fish eater as its teeth and notched jaws were specially adapted for catching fish. However the first example found had a young Iguanodon bones in its stomach which means it was probably omnivorous when food presented itself. It is possibly the same species as Suchomimus with which it shares great similarities. Like the earlier CollectA Deluxe model, they have given the Baryonyx longer neural or back spines than the official reconstruction in the Natural History Museum at Kensington has. Their fossil has damaged neural spines but vertebrae discovered on the Isle of Wight some years ago suggest that the animal had much longer ones than was originally thought. CollectA have based the arrangement of tail scutes on those of crocodilians and have also given him webbed back feet.
This figure features a moveable jaw.
